Materials for toys

We always emphasize that when choosing any toy, it is very important to buy one that is made of quality and health-safe materials. The shape, dimensions and functions determine what kind of toy we need, and after we have defined the purpose, we come to the stage when we decide on the type of material. Usually, we all first pay attention to the shape of the toy, its length and width, and we only look at the material from which it is made. The price can sometimes say a lot because more expensive toys are usually made of harmless substances. In addition to noticing differences to the touch, we will also see differences in the feeling it will give us. On our articles you can read phrases like BEZ PHTHALATES or PHTHAHALATE FREE, and you must have wondered what phthalates are?!

Phthalates are active ingredients added to plastic in order to break down its structure, making it softer and more pliable, but at the same time it would acquire a specific chemical smell and release a specific greasy film on the surface.

There are about 20 types of materials from which sex toys are made, and some basic division would look like this:

Cyberskin Rubber
Jelly
ABS plastic
Vinyl Rubber
Skin
Latex
Ceramics
Metal
PVC plastic
RealFeel Superskin silicone
Glass
TPE
TPR

Dildos, vibrators, stimulators, masturbators and the like are usually made of silicone, ABS plastic, PVC, TPR, TPE, latex, glass, ceramic, metal and jelly rubber.

SILICONE is the most popular material of extremely high quality. It is long-lasting and does not collect bacteria, does not contain phthalates. It is very easy to maintain and disinfect. It has no smell or taste and is available in various colors. It quickly warms up to body temperature. Silicone toys are smooth and velvety to the touch. We can only use water-based lubricants with such toys, because using those based on silicone or oil would eventually cause permanent damage to the product.

ABS plastic transmits vibrations brilliantly, and that is precisely why toys made of this material are a little noisier than others. Clitoris stimulators, vibrating eggs, mini bullet vibrators, balls and other products that require a solid body and a smooth surface are usually made of ABS plastic.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is a porous material with a characteristic smell and one good feature; it is easy to maintain. You can use water- and silicone-based lubricants with them. By adding various plasticizers, PVC becomes more like rubber. It is soft to the touch and most importantly – it does not contain phthalates.

TPE (Thermo-Plastic Elastomer) is a type of elastomer that is similar to jelly material, it is soft and flexible. Sex toys made of TPE material provide a feeling most similar to human skin. For this reason, we classify them as one of the higher quality materials. They do not contain phthalates, but unfortunately they cannot be 100% disinfected. If they are maintained in the right way, they are extremely long-lasting.

TPR (Thermo-Plastic Rubber) is a material with characteristics of rubber and plastic and contains a characteristic smell. It can be very soft and pliable, but at the same time very strong. It does not contain phthalates, is hypoallergenic and non-toxic. It is less porous than other similar materials, but not silicone. It is advised to avoid silicone or oil based lubricants when it comes to TPR or TPE materials.

LATEX is a type of rubber made from plants with excellent flexible properties. It is extremely stretchable and is most often used for the production of inflatable toys. Latex is characterized by a specific smell. It is very porous, so special attention should be paid to its cleaning. Do not decide to buy latex products if you are not sure if you are allergic.

GLASS toys are made of medical grade transparent borosilicate glass known as – PYREX glass. Due to the demanding production process, glass products are particularly high-quality and durable. We classify them in the category of more luxurious toys and therefore their price is higher. They are completely non-porous, hypoallergenic, and do not contain a single harmful ingredient. Glass toys are characterized by longevity and a beautiful appearance.

METAL sex products are made of medical grade, stainless steel or various stainless alloys. They are safe, non-porous and hygienically and visually unsurpassed.

CERAMICS are obtained by firing processed clay at a very high temperature. By adding glaze, this material becomes firm, hard and durable. It is non-porous and has excellent smoothness. Just like metal and glass, it is completely safe to use.

JELLY Rubber is a mixture of PVC plastic and rubber and looks very similar to jelly. The material is porous and cannot be completely disinfected. Toys made of jelly material look very realistic and are made in many colors. Jelly products have an unpleasant smell due to the addition of harmful phthalates to PVC. For this reason, we definitely recommend using a condom when using a toy made of such material.

In this article, we briefly presented some of the most common materials used to make sex toys. The material from which they are made is listed on the packaging of all products, as well as on the pages of the products you are viewing.
